St Catherine's School

St Catherine's

Nearest train station: Twickenham or Strawberry Hill

in an independent girls' day school of approximately 370 pupils. Founded in 1914 by the Sisters of Mercy the school is now under lay management. Our aim is to help every girl achieve her personal best by providing a broad and balanced education based on sound Christian principles within a stimulating, secure and supportive environment. As a Roman Catholic foundation, we warmly welcome girls of all denominations.

St Catherine's is a happy school and visitors, parents and students often remark on the purposeful, caring and friendly atmosphere which encourages learning without undue pressure. We believe that every student has talents and we endeavour to find and nurture these, whether creative, intellectual or athletic. Emphasis is placed on self-discipline, responsibility and the importance of kindness, concern and respect for others. Since it is a relatively small school the staff are able to know the students as individuals and this engenders a strong community spirit. It takes no time at all for a new student to make friends and the school prides itself on its pastoral care which allows every girl to feel valued and affirmed.

Learning is a key focus and we provide challenging opportunities for learning according to individual needs. We expect our students to work hard and they are encouraged to achieve their highest standards of excellence in their studies. Success is achieved through personal responsibility, high expectations, a dedication to individual goals and a close partnership between parents and school.

However, we also believe that education is much more than pure academics and we strive to educate students in the broadest sense. Therefore, we have a strong commitment to sports, music, drama and extra-curricular activities. A wide choice in all areas of activity within the school allows students to discover personal interests and talents and encourages them to develop a sense of commitment at all levels, whether to House, team, choir, club or tutorial group.

Our objective for your daughter is that she understands her responsibility to self, family, community and society and that she leaves St Catherine's as an articulate, personable and confident young woman who is well equipped for the challenges ahead.
