Highgate Woods School
Highgate Wood School
Nearest train station: Hornsey
is a mixed county secondary school with 1320 students, serving Crouch End and the surrounding areas.
We have a comprehensive intake of children who come from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds.
Students are allocated to this, as to all county schools in the borough, by the Haringey Education Service in accordance with the Authority's regulations.
We were awarded Performing Arts status in 2002, a well deserved accolade for the high quality and innovative work achieved in the music and drama departments. This provides us with the wherewithal to do even more to share our expertise with local primary schools and the wider community.
We have a well-qualified and experienced staff at Highgate Wood. Their knowledge of, and commitment to the school and local families enable us to provide a secure, orderly and friendly working environment.
The school occupies an attractive site on the Crouch End playing fields between Muswell Hill, Highgate and Crouch End.
The school was built in 1961 with an additional Science and Humanities Pavilion being opened in 1988, but as we have increased our intake over recent years this has become inadequate.
New look Highgate Wood
The school has been enlarged and enhanced under the Private Finance Initiative scheme (PFI). We have enjoyed the use of the Wren building which houses Art, Technology, Special Needs (SEN) and a reception and administrative area this year and have had the benefit of the Performing Arts suite and new Post 16 accommodation since June 2003.
Other facilities
The Library is comfortable and well-stocked and is extensively used by students at lunchtime and before and after school. There is scope for students to do their homework tasks during these times.
We have three designated Information Communication Technology (ICT) rooms that were refurbished with brand new state of the art computers over the summer of 2005. These rooms are well used both for discrete ICT lessons, to enhance the work of all the subjects and for students' own use.
